Mykonos (Greek: Μύκονος) is a Greek island and a top tourist destination, renowned for its cosmopolitan character and its intense nightlife.
The island is part of the Cyclades, lying between Tinos, Syros, Paros and Naxos.
In Greek mythology Mykonos was the location of the battle between Zeus and the Titan. The island was named in honor of Apollo’s grandson Mykons.
During these ancient times, Mykonos, due to its proximity to the highly populated island of Delos (situated about 2km away), became a very important “storage island” or even a possible getaway location for the Delian citizens.
Today, Mykonos is one of the most cosmopolitan islands of the Mediterranean Sea, while Mykonos’ nightlife is among the highest-rated in Europe. The island’s renowned clubs and beach bars, continuously welcome world-famous DJs and many of them maintain a unique reputation for their exclusive parties and celebrities.
Despite the touristic development on the island its traditional look and feel has remained intact, unlike most islands.
